Wellbeing for parenthood

Free wellbeing workshops from the NHS

Our Wellbeing for Parenthood workshop is a two hour Cognitive Behaviour Therapy based course looking at educating participants around common mental health difficulties many people experience during pregnancy and after welcoming a baby. This course is open to parents who are expecting a baby or have a child up to the age of two.

We welcome mums and dads, and partners dads or partners to come along to either support their partner if they may be struggling or to learn ways of managing their own wellbeing if they are finding it challenging. We are helping parents to build resilience and increase wellbeing in pregnancy and parenthood. We normalise the difficulties that parents can face during pregnancy and in the first 2 years, and the impact that COVID has had this past year. We then introduce Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and look at tools to help manage depression and anxiety in this period of time. We focus on managing worry, setting goals, establishing routine, building positive communication and sleep.

Participants can expect an interactive workshop using Powerpoint, with useful handouts and links to further resources. You are encouraged to take part in discussions and exercises, but if you are not comfortable with this there is no pressure to join in.

Due to social distancing guidelines, this workshop will be held online via Microsoft Teams,so you will need a smart phone, laptop or computer, a working email address, and confidential space to take part. There are regular daytime and evening options to suit you.

The workshop is aimed at education and is not group therapy. You will not be asked to share any of your own personal problems or difficulties – though you are welcome to share if you feel comfortable! We will send out our standard set of questionnaires that need to be completed the day before joining the workshop.

The workshop is open to anyone who is pregnant or a parent to a child under the age of two. You can attend with children present if you are unable to access childcare.

Your experience with us

Your feedback matters

“I could not fault the service I received. I was listened to and given so many different resources to help my anxiety and depression. I was so very low a year ago but with the amazing support from my therapist I feel more and more myself every day. Thank you TALKWORKS.”

“The therapy gently supported me to both understand and come to terms with my diagnosis and how it has impacted on me as a person for so many years. I felt I could be open and honest in a very safe space. I not only feel better, I understand myself better too.”

“I was apprehensive about using the service thinking I wasn't "bad" enough but a talk to the cardiac group by a TALKWORKS practitioner gave me confidence to self-refer. I was referred with respect and taken seriously throughout, felt safe and was given tools and advice to help myself take control of my situation.”
