TALKWORKS is a free-to-access NHS talking therapies service, open to veterans and their families across Devon (outside Plymouth which is covered by Plymouth Options). We are here to help improve your mental and physical wellbeing.
Have you been experiencing low mood, stress, poor sleep, or flashbacks from your time in the military? Have you been feeling disconnected from the people or the world around you? Our fully trained and accredited NHS clinicians can work with you to understand your difficulties, and provide you with the tools and techniques to help you to overcome your challenges.
Speak to a member of our team by calling 0300 555 3344 (Monday - Friday from 9am to 4:45pm) or scroll down to find out more about the help we can offer.
What help is available through TALKWORKS?
While many of us often focus on treating physical health difficulties as and when they happen, it’s equally as important to get support for your mental health too. If you take the right steps and with the right support, you can get back to feeling more like yourself again.
Our service offering includes:
- One-to-one sessions with a therapist (available face-to-face, over the phone or by video call) to help with a range of difficulties, including problems with sleep, low mood, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder
- Supported, online self-help programmes (accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week)
- Wellbeing workshops and online group courses
- A dedicated Talking Health team, experienced in supporting adults with long term physical health conditions
- Help for new and expectant parents, available for mums, dads and non-birthing partners
- Access to employment support for any employment related difficulties (this may include help with returning to work after a period of absence, reasonable adjustments within the workplace and/or support with work based meetings after having time off unwell)
- Signposting and referrals to other services who may be able to support you further
As a veteran, you may be able to get priority help from our service. This means that after you have had an initial TALKWORKS appointment, if our service is able to meet our needs, you may well be fast-tracked through for further appointments.
What are the next steps?
You can refer yourself to TALKWORKS without needing to see a GP or healthcare professional. Simply fill out our online self-referral form or speak to a member of our team by calling 0300 555 3344.
As an NHS service, everything provided by TALKWORKS is available free of charge. Waiting times to be seen are short, with early morning and evening appointments also available Monday to Friday.
“If you are in difficulty, never be afraid to ask for help. There is absolutely no shame in doing so. The only shame is missing out on life.”
