IAPT Service for Devon

We are a free, confidential, NHS talking therapy service, part of IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies), for people (aged 18+) in Devon (excluding Plymouth), helping you to feel better and giving you the tools and techniques to improve your mental and physical wellbeing.

Stress and worry are normal feelings when you are dealing with a difficult problem, or a hard time in your life, but they shouldn’t be something you have to deal with constantly. Constant worry can feel completely overwhelming and affect your sleep, your daily life and your relationships. At TALKWORKS, we can help you gain the skills to manage your worries and to get you back to feeling like ‘you’ again.

All of us will have felt down or low at some point in our lives, especially during difficult times. You might be struggling with low energy, poor sleep or feeling bad about yourself. You might have stopped doing the things you enjoy or seeing people who matter to you. Perhaps difficulties with your physical health are a real struggle and you feel low.  We can help you to get your life back on track.

At times, life can all feel too much. Facing family or relationship problems, deadlines at work and university, struggles with money, long term physical health difficulties or any of the other things that life throws at us can sometimes feel impossible, and you can be left feeling helpless. Help is at hand – we understand how you are feeling, and can work with you to deal with your worries and create strategies to manage them.

Anxiety can feel crippling and prevent you from doing the things you want to do, and normally enjoy. We all experience anxiety in different ways: some people feel anxious and experience feelings of panic; others have overwhelming obsessive thoughts, some are avoidant of specific things. Sometimes anxiety is a result of experiencing something traumatic. We are here to help you find the tools to manage your anxiety to get your life back to a positive place.

Sometimes when we are feeling down, we can experience a whole new level of tiredness where we feel drained and exhausted, even if we are managing to sleep at night. Some people find that stress and worry keep them up at night tossing and turning, which leads to them feeling drained the next day. At TALKWORKS, we can address the difficulty you are experiencing with sleep, to help you to face day-to-day life with energy.

If you’re not yet sure if you want to get in touch with us and need more information in helping you make a decision, the information available on our website might help.

Concerned about someone?

Help is at hand

Are you worried about a friend or a member of your family? Maybe a life event or a long term health diagnosis has had an impact on them and their mood may have changed over time, or you may have noticed a change in their behaviour or the way they feel. Maybe they seem anxious all of the time.

Life events that are considered as happy - such as pregnancy and becoming a parent - affect people in different ways, and can leave some people feeling lost and frightened.

We’re on hand to help. We know the sooner people come to see us the quicker they will recover and begin to feel better again.

We’re a team of psychological wellbeing practitioners (PWPs) and psychological therapists who deliver primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based treatment, and other evidenced based therapies

With six teams and 175+ staff across Devon, we deliver evidenced-based treatment and follow a stepped care model.

You can refer people direct to us at TALKWORKS or ask people to self-refer if they prefer. We are always happy to talk with you about our service or to discuss specific referrals.
