Debby thanks the TALKWORKS team

We spoke to former service user Debby about her experience using TALKWORKS and what made her reach out to us. In the below passage, she talks about how she felt when she was finding things hard and the difference that TALKWORKS has made to her:

“My experience with TALKWORKS helped me enormously. This was the first time I have experienced this sort of help so it was a leap of faith for me, and I am so glad I took it. Graeme, a Therapist, got in touch and agreed a series of meetings with me.  I admit I was sceptical as I was not one to open up to anyone, let alone plumb the depths I was currently at with a total stranger.

Graeme was easy to talk to, and I soon found confidence to share the events I had been through and my subsequent problems. He gave me explanations which have helped me gain understanding. I also received guidance, practical advice and suggestions, such as coping strategies, for the future.  The weekly meetings were punctual, full of content, including things to try out, and always very pertinent to what I was facing on a daily basis.  I was able to raise issues as they cropped up and given realistic goals to aim for in the forthcoming week.

These meetings were an immensely valuable safety net for me, providing reassurance, encouragement, an improved knowledge base, a time for reflection and a renewed sense of purpose and personal worth.  I was also given follow up links where I could extend my knowledge of things we discussed.

As you will see from my comments above, I have gained incredible amount.  I have been able to move into a completely different mind-set since commencing my TALKWORKS’ therapy, one that will enable me to face the future knowing more and also knowing where help can be found.  I feel sure that I won't get to the depths I was at, as the therapy has been so beneficial.  One very big plus is that I am able to sleep soundly – I wake feeling rested and refreshed, ready to face whatever the day brings.

I am so grateful to have received this invaluable help.  My sincere thanks to TALKWORKS. What a brilliant service."
