Self-referSarah from TALKWORKS will be one of the baton bearers in this year's Baton of Hope tour. The baton will travel across 20 different locations across the UK and will be passing through Torbay on Tuesday 30 September.
The Baton of Hope is the UK’s biggest suicide prevention initiative that wants to bring about change. The initiative was started by two fathers, each of whom had suffered a terrible loss. They met on social media and became passionate advocates for creating change in the UK suicide prevention policy. The aim of the tour is to raise awareness of suicide and generate more open discussions around it, to ensure those affected by suicide are better supported.
When asked why she decided to apply to be a baton bearer, Sarah said “I have worked in the area of mental health form many years and suicide prevention has always been a central part of my work and reason for doing this work. I have been impacted by suicide loss both personally and professionally during the last 30 years. I am passionate about the prevention of suicide and the need for support for those bereaved by suicide. I feel honoured to be part of the event and hope that change comes from raising awareness and encouraging people to talk about suicide. It’s relevant to each and every one of us.”
Our TALKWORKS team will be at the event, cheering Sarah on, and having an information stand to raise awareness of our service and the support we can offer. More information around this will be shared soon. In the meantime, you can find out more about the Baton of Hope and how you can get involved in this initiative on the Baton of Hope website.
