Stress and living with a long-term health condition

Long-term health conditions (either one’s own, or those of close family and friends) was the top stressor reported in the Mental Health Foundation’s survey (2018), with 36% of all adults who reported stress in the previous year citing them as a stressor. We know that more than 19 million people in England live with one or more long term conditions, according to ONS (2020) and more than six million will also struggle with their emotional wellbeing and experience depression and anxiety.

Our physical and mental health are inextricably linked and when both are affecting us, we may find ourselves struggling to cope, feeling alone, stressed or afraid of how our lives can improve.

The Talking Health Team at TALKWORKS can help. They are a dedicated experienced team of practitioners, working across Devon, who can work with people to help them manage the emotional difficulties that often go hand in hand with experiencing a long-term health condition. They are able to provide a range of tools, techniques and coping mechanisms to help people manage things differently, get more out of life and feel more confident in the future.

People can refer themselves by contacting the Talking Health Team or GPs and healthcare professionals can refer on their behalf by completing the Professionals online referral form.

You can also book onto our Living well with a long-term health condition workshop by calling us on 0300 555 3344.
