NHS Online therapy appointments

Mental health support online

start your video consultation

To improve our online mental health support, we are pleased to offer video consultations, in partnership with Attend Anywhere. Attend Anywhere is a secure NHS video call service for people with pre-arranged appointments only.

We recognise that the traditional face-to-face appointment is not always convenient and that a video consultation from your choice of place may suit you better rather than travelling to a TALKWORKS base or to a different venue in the community.

After your initial telephone assessment with TALKWORKS, you can choose if you wish to continue having your appointments by telephone or have future appointments by an online video consultation instead.

What do I need to start video conferencing?

For a video consultation with a mental health therapist, you will need:

  • Broadband internet access – we suggest that you use Wi-Fi rather than 4G to ensure that the signal is reliable, but you can use 4G if Wi-Fi isn’t available.
  • The Google Chrome web browser – Attend Anywhere will not work on Internet Explorer.
  • You can use Attend Anywhere on a PC, Mac or an iOS/Android device, using a Google Chrome (for PC/Mac/all mobile devices)/Apple Safari (for Macs and iOS devices) browser. Attend Anywhere will not work on Internet Explorer . Download Google Chrome or Safari for free.
  • A quiet location away from noise and distractions so that you can clearly hear the therapist and hold your consultation in private.

What should I expect from my video appointment?

If you have opted to have a video consultation, we will schedule your appointment as normal and send you details of the appointment date and time by letter or email, whichever you prefer.

Five minutes before your appointment time, click on the ‘start a video call’ picture below. You will be taken through a series of steps to ensure that your equipment is set up correctly. Once the steps have been completed, you will be prompted to enter your name and telephone number and accept the terms and conditions. This information is not stored beyond the length of the video call.

Once these steps have been followed, click on the 'Start Call' button and you will enter the TALKWORKS waiting room until your consultation begins. You will see yourself on the video and hear music. The waiting room is private and you will not see other patients.

When the consultation is ready to begin, your image will shrink and move to the corner of the screen and you will see your clinician.

The video call is free (except your internet usage charge) and data is not used whilst you are in the waiting room.

Your experience with us

Your feedback matters

“I was apprehensive about using the service thinking I wasn't "bad" enough but a talk to the cardiac group by a TALKWORKS practitioner gave me confidence to self-refer. I was referred with respect and taken seriously throughout, felt safe and was given tools and advice to help myself take control of my situation.”

“The therapy gently supported me to both understand and come to terms with my diagnosis and how it has impacted on me as a person for so many years. I felt I could be open and honest in a very safe space. I not only feel better, I understand myself better too.”

“I could not fault the service I received. I was listened to and given so many different resources to help my anxiety and depression. I was so very low a year ago but with the amazing support from my therapist I feel more and more myself every day. Thank you TALKWORKS.”
